Donation & Recycling
Not everything hauled off a Waco property has to end up in the landfill. Here's how donation and recycling work when we match you with a local provider.
We don't haul anything ourselves — we take your request and route it to an independent local junk removal provider serving Waco and the surrounding communities. What happens to your old couch or dead washing machine after it leaves the driveway is up to that provider, and it's a fair question to ask before the truck is loaded. Many local haulers do sort a load and redirect usable items when it's practical, and you can tell your provider up front that you'd rather see something donated than dumped.
🤝 Where usable items go in Waco
Four Waco organisations take the kind of thing that comes out of a cleanout. Tell your provider which one you would prefer, or drop items yourself before the truck arrives — anything that leaves the load is weight you are not paying to haul.
Building materials and the fixtures a remodel leaves behind — cabinets, doors, windows, lighting, ceiling fans, flooring, tools and working appliances.
The most useful destination for a kitchen or bath tear-out, because it takes the cabinetry and fixtures the thrift stores will not.
Household items, furniture and décor. Resale revenue funds the Caritas food pantry and assistance programmes.
Gently used furniture, clothing and household goods, via a drive-up donation lane.
Clothing, housewares, small furniture, books and working electronics.
The Waco-area Goodwill affiliate — not Goodwill Central Texas, which covers Austin. Resale funds local job training.
Check current hours and accepted items with the organisation before you load the car — all four change what they take seasonally, and none of them are affiliated with us.
♻️ Recycling and disposal in McLennan County
Where the rest of a Waco load actually ends up, and what the county will and will not take.
Paper and cardboard, plastics 1–7, aluminium, steel and tin cans, glass bottles and jars, cooking oil, batteries and computer electronics.
Waco residents with photo ID and a current water bill can also drop used motor oil, antifreeze, oil filters and a limited volume of latex paint. Proof of residency is required for those.
General waste by the ton or cubic yard, plus refrigerant recovery from fridges, freezers and window A/C units for a per-appliance fee.
This is where the non-divertible part of most loads ends up. Tipping fees are what sit behind the disposal line on a junk removal quote.
Paint, solvents, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane cylinders and similar household chemicals.
No junk removal provider can legally take these on a truck. They have to go through a hazardous waste event or an approved facility.
What a provider can pull out of a mixed load
- ✓ Scrap metal — Appliances, water heaters, bed frames, metal shelving and structural steel hold enough value that most providers pull them for a scrap yard rather than pay to landfill them.
- ✓ Electronics — TVs, monitors and computers need certified processing under Texas e-waste rules. Cobbs takes computer electronics from Waco residents.
- ✓ Cabinets, doors and fixtures — Anything still serviceable from a remodel is worth offering to the ReStore before it is loaded — it is the one local destination set up to take it.
- ✓ Furniture in usable shape — Sofas, tables and dressers without water damage or structural breaks are resale stock for Caritas, Salvation Army and Goodwill.
- ✓ Cardboard and clean paper — Separated when there is enough volume to be worth the extra stop.
Our Honest Position
We won't tell you every item is recycled or donated when that isn't true. We don't run the truck, so we can't promise where your load ends up — and plenty of loads do go to the landfill, because a water-damaged mattress or a broken particle-board dresser has nowhere else to go. What we can do is put donation and recycling in front of you before anything is picked up, pass your preference to the independent provider handling the job, and tell you plainly that the provider is the one who decides what gets sorted. Ask them directly when they quote the job.
